In-Home Cat Photography Sydney
It may seem impossible but it can be done. We love cats and small animals and we know how important it is to capture the special moments with our timid furry friends.
We know many cats and small animals can take a bit to warm up to strange hoomans so to ensure they feel safe and comfortable, we take the photos in the comfort of your home (or a space where your cat or small animal is familiar with.
We consider ourselves cat & small animal whisperers so you can be sure to have some amazing photos post photo shoot!

As a Vet and cat person who understands cat behaviour
Instead of aiming for perfect poses, each session is built around keeping your cat feeling safe, in control and free to say “yes” or “no” to interaction at any point.
Gentle techniques I use during sessions:
-
Quiet arrival, not a big entrance:
-
I do not ring the doorbell because sudden, loud sounds can easily spike feline stress and send many cats straight under the bed. Instead, I send a quick text when I am nearby and use a soft knock or gentle entry so your cat can register a new person without a big fright.
-
-
Calm voice and soft body language:
-
When I come in, I move slowly and stay low, avoiding looming over your cat or reaching straight towards them, because fast, direct approaches often trigger that instinct to run or defend. I use a quiet voice, a side‑on posture and give them plenty of space so they have the choice to be curious rather than scared.
-
-
Using a long lens to give space:
-
Often, the first 10–20 minutes of your session are just me sitting on the floor or sofa chatting with you while your cats watch, listen and sniff from a distance. I give your cats if they are food motivated to help win them over. This slow start gives them time to decide how close they want to come, instead of feeling like the spotlight is on them the moment I walk in.
-
-
Always allowing hiding places and breaks:
-
I treat hiding as a healthy coping strategy, not something that needs to be “fixed”, so safe spots like under the bed, in a cosy room or behind the couch always stay available. If your cat needs to retreat, I respect that boundary and slow things down or change the plan until their body language softens again.
-
-
Pre‑session phone call for your cat’s needs:
-
Before your shoot, I organise a quick phone call so we can talk through your cat’s personality, triggers and any favourite things. That way, we can plan small adjustments, like avoiding certain sounds, rooms or movements. This will make a big difference to how safe your cat feels on the day.

Frequently asked questions:
Sydney Cat Photographer
My cat is very anxious. How will you handle them?
-
Many of the cats photographed are shy, anxious or have had scary experiences in the past, so everything is set up to feel as calm and predictable as possible. Arrival is quiet (no doorbell), movements are slow, and there is plenty of time for your cat to watch from a distance, sniff the gear and decide if they want to come closer.
What if my cat hides the whole time?
-
Hiding is a normal coping strategy for cats, not “bad behaviour”. If your cat needs to stay in a safe spot, photos are gently worked around that space using a long lens, or the session is broken into small chunks with lots of breaks so they are never pushed beyond what they can handle. If needed, we will organise another time for our photoshoot at no added cost.
Do you force cats to pose or pick them up?
-
No. Cats are never forced into poses or picked up if they are uncomfortable. Instead, the natural positions they choose for themselves are used. This includes on the bed, in a favourite hidey‑hole, at the window. I guide you gently so the images still look flattering and intentional.
Do you offer in-home cat photography in Sydney?
-
Yes, in‑home cat photography is what this service is all about. All sessions take place in your home so your cat can stay in their safe space while natural, joy‑filled images are created around their favourite spots.
What is a “Next‑Day Urgent” cat photo session?
-
Next‑Day Urgent sessions are priority bookings for senior, fragile or terminally ill cats when time suddenly feels very short. The schedule is reshuffled wherever possible so your bond can be photographed tenderly and respectfully, often within 24 hours.
How do you keep traumatised or rescue cats feeling safe?
-
Traumatised and rescue cats are approached with extra patience and respect for their history. The session stays low‑key: soft voices, no sudden movements, no crowding, and lots of choice about distance, with the option to stop completely if their stress signals say “enough”.
Can I be in the photos with my cat?
-
Definitely; the connection between you and your cat is the heart of the session. You are gently guided into comfortable, natural positions so cuddles, nose boops and quiet moments together can be photographed beautifully.
What kind of products do you offer after the shoot?
-
Your favourite images can be transformed into wall art, framed prints, metal pieces and heirloom albums made to suit Sydney homes and apartments. Each product is designed to be long‑lasting so you can enjoy your cat’s portraits every day for years to come.
Can we prepare our cat before the session?
-
Yes. We will have a short phone call before the booking to help go over simple steps like keeping to their usual routine, setting up a quiet “safe room”, and having favourite treats or toys ready. This planning, combined with gentle, fear‑free approaches during the photoshoot, helps anxious or traumatised cats stay as relaxed and safe as possible while still capturing meaningful images.
