In a few short words/sentences, tell us about your cat's personalities.

He is a very determined cat who loves exploring and adventuring. He's not afraid of water and will jump straight into the big blue and swim through the surf! He is crazy about food and growls fiercely whenever he has fish. He also has a soft side and loves to cuddle and get chin and chest scratches when he is tired.

How has your cat transformed your life from the moment you've met him till now?

He has taught us to appreciate nature more by insisting we go exploring multiple times a day and reminding us to sit outside and watch the sunrise and set with him. He has brought so much love, kindness and play into our lives! It is impossible to be frustrated or annoyed when he is around being adorable and mischievous all the time. He truly helps us appreciate the simple things in life and reminds us to embrace these things and have youthful excitement and energy like him.

What does your cat mean to you?

Our cat is our buddy and our adventure partner. He encourages us to get out and explore. We love him dearly and he is a part of our family.

How did you and your cat first meet? Tell it to us in the form of a short story.

We had been talking about inviting a cat to live aboard with us from some time when we saw an ad on Gumtree for a kitten being given away for free in Rockhampton. In the photo, his eyes were wide and full of energy and mischief and we were enamoured immediately so we gave the seller a call. She drove down to the river (where we were anchored) so he could meet us and he was so brave from word go! He didn't cry or shy away from us, instead, we played a little together in the park before he fell asleep beside us. The seller told us that his siblings had died and he was the only kitten left and after spending time with him we realised he was going to be an amazing companion. We had thought he might be nervous about coming to a new place with strange people but he soon showed us how fearless he was. We kayaked him back to our sailboat and he immediately began exploring all its nooks and crannies then scoffed down a whole can of tuna. He was adapting to boat life already!

What do you think your cat thinks of you?

I could never say for sure what he thinks exactly, but we are definitely food providers, cat uber, safety inspectors, masseuse and living hot water bottles to him ;)

Your cat is part of your family. What are some things they do that make you think that she considers you part of theirs?

Jezebel spends a great deal of time exploring his backyards off-leash and without fail he will follow us wherever we go, up to and including swimming into shore when we leave him behind on the boat. He always wants to be by our side. Even when we take time off the boat to go camping, he is always within earshot and comes running to us as soon as we call him. He is also very affectionate towards both of us.

Why do you feel that it is important to show the world that Cats are Family?

To me, Jezebel's Cat is definitely a part of our family. Anyone who has ever bothered to build a relationship with a cat knows the honesty of the relationship. It may not be as simple as winning the affection of a dog. With a cat, you have to earn their trust and in return, they show you unbelievable loyalty, friendship, affection and bring great joy. From my experience, the greatest relationships are built from both parties putting effort in to continually build and grow the relationship to new heights and cats are most certainly more capable of complex emotional bonds with humans than that which old stereotypes have them labelled. In fact, they are quite the little adventure companions if guided with trust and respect! If you want a cat to be a part of your family, and give them what they each individually need to feel safe and happy, they will return the love and there you have a happy family.
