Cat Family Story #53: Kitty, Munchie and Floofy

What are the names of your cats?

My cats' names are Kitty, Munchie & Floofy.

Where is your cat family located in?

We live in Singapore.

What are the breeds of your cats?

Kitty's a domestic shorthair, Munchie's a munchkin tabby shorthair, and Floofy's a British Shorthair-Maine Coon cross.

How old are your cats?

This year, Kitty's 9, Munchie's 7 and Floofy's 3.

Where can we find your cats on social media?

On Instagram @kittymunchiefloofy

In a few short words/sentences, tell us about your cats' personalities.

Kitty is the epitome of aloof. She can spend all day perched on a ledge watching the world go by. She's also a serial mat-hopper, and loves a good floormat! Just lay a floormat down, she'll be right there.

Munchie is a lover of all food, has major FOMO, and is a very jealous cat. He's the most vocal of the 3, and also the only male. Floofy's a scaredy-cat, she jumps at the slightest sound, but runs the fastest and jumps the highest (she is a master at catching lizards!).

How have your cats transformed your life from the moment you've met them till now?

They've taught me to think of not just myself, but of them too - how to take care of them, fulfil their needs and make sure they're always healthy. They've also taught me unconditional love (or so I'd like to think!! Hopefully it's not just because I give them food).

What do your cats mean to you?

They are our children, 100%. Watching them grow up from teeny kittens, through teenage years, and into adulthood is a true joy. They mean the world to me and whenever I'm feeling down, I just gaze over at them and I feel instantly better.

How did you and your cats first meet? Tell it to us in the form of a short story.

It started with Kitty - a stray 3-week old almost-black kitten, abandoned by her mother. We took her in as a foster and brought her to the vet for her checkups and vaccinations. At the vet, they asked, "what's her name?" and I said, "Oh, I don't know, Kitty". And the name stuck. We tried to find her a forever home, but little did we know that she already was in her forever home with us. :)

We adopted another ginger cat named Tiger a year later, but sadly, he ran away and never came back. A couple of months after, a friend gifted Munchie to us and he was a lovable little kitten. He was supposed to be a companion for Kitty, but Kitty is too aloof to want to play with him.

We thought 2 cats was enough for us, but one day while bringing Kitty to the vet for her annual vac, we saw a little kitten walking around the clinic. We were playing with the little kitten, and the nurse came over and told us that she was up for adoption. Being the runt of her litter, she was super small and rejected by her mother. All her siblings were adopted, and she was the last one left, they couldn't seem to find her a forever home. Initially, I said no more cats, but Matt kept trying to change my mind. So finally I caved, and we took her home! So that's how we got Floofy. And she is 100% Matt's cat. Only he can pick her up for a cuddle!

What do you think your cats think of you?

Definitely, the givers of food.

Your cats are part of your family. What are some things they do that make you think that they consider you part of theirs?

They cuddle up with us, sit on our laps and purr when we work, and even head bump us! That's got to be a good sign :)

Why do you feel that it is important to show the world that Cats are Family?

Many people have told me "3 cats?! That's way too many," or "They're just cats." But no, they're not JUST cats, they're my children and I love them infinitely. I hope more people would appreciate that our pets ARE our family. They're not "just a pet".
